About Isabell Kamp

Misunderstandings are the main theme that Isabell Kamp addresses with her ceramic work. Beautiful and fragile yet at the same time, their form demonstrates in bewildering ways the fact that we cannot not communicate. Each gesture can tell us more than a thousand words, interpersonal communication is just as fragile as the work of the artist. In these hands, mouths, and other ceramic fragments of bodies, the artist captures what is almost impossible to represent: the messages that are subconsciously conveyed in the interstices of communication.

Isabell Kamp, born in Bonn in 1980, lived and worked in Hamburg from 2009 to 2018 before moving back to the Rhineland region. During her time in Hamburg, she was part of the “action team” of the artist association “2025 Kunst und Kultur e.V.” Isabell Kamp studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart from 2003 to 2008. Her work has been nominated for prizes multiple times, and travel grants have brought her to Scotland, China, as well as to other places in the world.
