About Jochen Hein
The ocean in all of its facets, the sky, park landscapes, grass: Jochen Hein deals with the complexity and the perplexity of natural phenomena in his painting. The realistic appearance is deceiving: The closer you approach his paintings, the more the apparently realistic image dissolves into pure color. Experimental painting processes enable the production of works that do not attempt to be representations of our world, but rather to reflect the visible surface of it and to call our conventional modes of seeing into question. They invite the viewer to go on a metaphysical saunter, with the partial abstraction allowing space for subjective memories.
Jochen Hein was born in Husum in 1960 and graduated from the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) in 1987. His work has been shown in exhibitions at numerous museums, such as the Museum Kunst der Westküste (2016), the German Historical Museum in Berlin (2018), and the Hamburger Kunsthalle (2018). He is represented by the Galerie Thomas Fuchs at international art fairs, including in Basel, Miami, Munich, and Berlin. In Hamburg he is represented by the Galerie Commeter and Galerie Felix Jud.
