About Angela Anzi
How can moving air be used as an artistic medium? Can you feel sound and hear working materials? And when does meaning reside within an object? In her multimedia work, Angela Anzi poses sculptural questions to investigate the seemingly familiar. By shifting our perspective of these objects, she breaks through the horizons of our experience, creating tipping points that lead to unexpected perceptual changes. Along with hand-made ceramics, commonplace elements such as baking paper and Styrofoam find their way into her exhibitions. Another important part of her artistic production is performance, in which the ceramic objects she produces are activated, as in the exhibition “Resistance of Bodies/Persistence of Sound” at the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof.
Angela Anzi was born in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1981. She attended the HFBK University of Fine ArtsHamburg, studying time-based media under Prof. Jeanne Faust and Prof. Hanne Loreck from 2008 to 2017, and studying stage space under Prof. Raimund Bauer from 2009 to 2014. She also spent a semester abroad in London at Goldsmith’s University in 2013. In recent years, she has received numerous grants and scholarships, including a project grant from the Hamburgische Kulturstiftung (2020), a project grant from the Hamburg Agency for Culture and Media (2020), and a grant from the city of Hamburg (2018). Since 2011, exhibitions and performances by Angela Anzi have been held in Germany and internationally in countries such as France, Finland, Austria, Italy, Korea, USA, Romania, Taiwan, and Switzerland.
